Rest And Hope

Mark 1:40-45; Psalm 62:5, NIV

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; For my hope comes from him. (Psalm 62:5, NIV)

The humble leper beseeched Jesus to heal him saying these quaint words: “If You are willing, You can make me clean”(Mark1:40). He was merely saying aloud what he realistically expected of Jesus. Jesus saw this leper’s deepest need. He was an outcast. No one could heal him, come near to him, or touch him. Only Jesus could. Jesus willingly satisfied his longing by meeting him at his need: “I am willing, ... Be clean!” (v.41). Jesus fulfilled this leper’s need which was his hope all along. He needed to be healed. What is your hope?

When our hope is in God, we can confidently say like David “Find rest O my soul, in God alone: For my hope comes from him” (Psalm 62:5). David was King; therefore, he had many stressful responsibilities, which are similar to what many leaders are experiencing today. This leper desired healing and he saw Jesus as the only solution to his burning desire, for “rest” or” hope” (v.5) Whatever we hope God to do for us, we are to come boldly and ask in sincerity, doubting nothing.
